Programs-Youth-Summer Day Camp

Camp GRACE (Growth. Recognition. Achievement. Character. Encouragement.)
Children with Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD) or Autism Spectrum Disorder, ages 6-13.
A.E. Finley YMCA

Camp G.R.A.C.E. incorporates therapeutic ideals from many disciplines: therapeutic recreation, TEACCH, Applied Behavioral Analysis, Verbal Behavior, and Sensory Integration. Camp G.R.A.C.E. is not a mental health program or a treatment program. While our staff attend introductory trainings in these disciplines, we are not designed to implement therapeutic programs. Our goal is for the staff to have an understanding of these methods, and to incorporate these ideals into daily activities.

Dates: Two-week sessions

Social Skills - June 21 – July 2
Building Blocks - July 6 – 16*
Social Skills - July 19 – 30
Building Blocks - Aug. 2 – 13

During Social Skills weeks we will also offer camp for CILTS ages 14 and up. The camp is located on site at A.E. Finley YMCA. Each session of Camp G.R.A.C.E. runs for two weeks, with each session focusing on building specific skills. We have alternating two-week sessions: Building Social Skills and Building Blocks.

Building Social Skills sessions are designed for those who are at a higher functioning level, and do not require any one-on-one assistance; the focus of the session will be on incorporating social skills, teamwork, and group dynamics.

The Building Blocks sessions are designed with a smaller ratio, to allow for more individual care. The goal is to break down the activities in our smaller groups, teach the skills, and then put them together when we do the inclusive activities with Finley Day Camp.

The camp curriculum was designed through the leadership of an advisory board consisting of parents of children with autism and professionals in the field.

It is through the collaboration of the following organizations and individuals that we are able to bring you Camp GRACE:A Small Miracle, Inc.,, Autism Society of North Carolina, Maxim Home Health, North Carolina State University, Raleigh TEACCH Center, University of North Carolina and independently contracted behavioral psychologists.

*No Camp on Monday, July 5 (fees are adjusted)
