Kim Keith Selected for Education Award

Providing opportunities for children to reach their full potential is a top priority for our YMCA. It's also a top priority for Kim Keith, our Y's Vice President of Youth Development.

On February 15, Helping Education awarded Kim the Apple of My Eye Award as a Partner in Education for her leadership of the WakeTogether collaboration.

"Kim is a tireless leader who gets things done," exclaimed Dr. Amy Mattingly, Vice President of Helping Education. "We believe in authentic collaboration at Helping Education. The collaboration with the Y and with the leadership of Kim is amazing."

"I believe that every child, regardless of their background, deserves quality education and learning experiences during school, after school and during the summer," said Kim. "This award is a celebration of the collective work of the Y, Helping Education and the Wake County Public Schools in the past year."

About WakeTogether
Interrupted learning from the pandemic  left a significant impact on our school-age children.
In 2022, our Y partnered with the Wake County Public School System, the Helping Education fund and the WakeEd Partnership to provide structured, intense, one-on-one tutoring to help students improve their reading fluency and confidence.

We need your help to volunteer as a tutor. Here are the basics.

  • Locations around Wake County
  • Commitment for at least one semester and one to two hours a week
  • Tutors may volunteer during or after school hours
